そんなイメージのフルアコをと企画。そのイメージをサウンドに変貌させるには、ハムバッキングP.U.よりは、シングルコイルの方が表現しやすい故にシングルコイルP.U.バージョンとしている。そしてボディ幅もオーソドックスな16インチとし、薄胴ボディである。通常このタイプのボディ構造は、ブレイシングはなくトップ材の裏のセンター部にネック側からエンド部まで板を貼付けてあるだけの状態だが、このSMITHは、パラレル・ブレイシングを施した通常のフルアコ構造に加え、他モデルと同じくトップ裏ブリッジ部にブロックを搭載したDetroit Oneと同様なKING SNAKE独自な構造となっている。Detroit Oneの1インチボディ幅を小さくしたダブル・カッタウェイモデルと言って良いだろう。それにより、ふくよかなアコースティック感と独自なミドル感を持ち合わせ、ビートの効いた音楽にベストマッチするサウンドとなっている。このサウンドは唯一無二なものだろう。狂った如く弾き倒す感が望ましい。同フレーズを延々に弾くと言うブラックなトリップ感を与えて欲しい。ジャズ、ブルース、R&R、カントリーロック、フォーク・ロック、マージービート等ビートニクな全ての音楽にベストマッチするだろう。

BEAT : Hitting rhythmically and continuously.We planned to create a fully hollow guitar with such an image. In order to transform this image into a sound, the single coil P.U. version is more expressive than the humbucking P.U., so it is the single coil P.U. version. The width of the body is the traditional 16 inches, and it has a thin body. Normally, this type of body construction has no bracing, just a board affixed to the center of the back of the top from the neck side to the end, but this SMITH has the usual full-acoustic construction with parallel bracing and a block at the bridge behind the top like other models. It can be described as a double cutaway model with an inch smaller body width than the Detroit One. The result is a fuller acoustic sound with a unique midrange that is best suited for music with a beat. This is a unique sound. The feeling of playing like a madman is desirable. I want you to give me a black trip feeling of playing the same phrase over and over. It is best suited for jazz, blues, R&R, country rock, folk rock, Merseybeat, and all other beatnik music.

Parallel Bracing & Detroit One Block

一見するとセミアコと思われるルックスだがHollow Body構造。通常このモデルタイプのボディ構造はブレイシングは無くトップ材の裏のセンター部にネック側からエンド部まで板を貼付けてあるだけの状態だが、このSMITHはパラレル・ブレイシングを施した通常のフルアコ構造に加え、アンプに通した時のトーン、音量を第一に考えてデザインし、フルアコースティック構造ながらもサウンドの芯とサスティーンを得る為に、ブリッジの裏側に当たる位置に15mmの分厚いスプルース材を施してある（幅80mm長さ70㎜）。これにより通常のフルアコでは得る事の出来ない独特なサスティーンと良い意味でのコンプ感を伴うサウンドの腰の強さが増し、クランチに歪ませた設定でも十分に対応出来る。言い換えるならば、セミアコとフルアコの中間的なころ合いの良いところに収めたサウンドである。

At first glance, it looks like a semi-hollow, but it has a hollow body construction. Normally, the body of this model type has no bracing, and a board is simply attached to the center of the back of the top wood from the neck side to the end. In addition to the normal hollow body construction with parallel bracing, the SMITH was designed with the tone and volume when played through an amplifier as the top priority. 15mm of thick spruce wood (80mm wide and 70mm long) is applied to the back of the bridge to provide core and sustain despite the hollow body construction. This gives the guitar a unique sustain that cannot be obtained with a normal hollow body, and a good sense of comp, which increases the strength of the sound, even when distorted to a crunch setting. In other words, the sound is somewhere between a semi-hollow body and a hollow body.

独自の極薄ニトロセルロース・ラッカー仕上げ

ヴィンテージ・ギターと同様の「ニトロセルロース・ラッカー」を下地より使用。現在ポピュラーなポリエステルに比べ、塗装の厚さを約1/3以下の薄さで仕上げられるため、各々のモデルにふさわしく構築されたボディ、ネックの持つ「木の鳴り」をダイレクトに響かせ、見た目もワイルドかつ高級感漂うKING SNAKE独自の質感を与えている。
Nitrocellulose lacquer, the same as used on vintage guitars, is used from the base coat. Compared to polyester, which is popular today, the thickness of the coating is less than 1/3, allowing the body and neck of each model to resonate directly with the sound of the wood, and giving the guitar a wild and luxurious look and feel unique to KING SNAKE.

「3.5mmと言う薄いTOP & Back が生む切れ味。」

合板トップ&バック材は、メイプル / スプルース / メイプルの３プライ。音の立ち上がりの早さとライブ時音量まで上げた際にキレとうねる感じを出す為に薄く仕上げられている。メイプル / スプルース / メイプルの構成は、昔の175等と同じだが、例えば50年代175は、メイプル（約1mm） / スプルース（約3mm） / メイプル（約1mm）とトータル約5mm厚。Curtisはメイプル(1mm) / スプルース(1.5mm） / メイプル（1mm）とトータル3.5mm厚。同じ材構造だが厚みが違うため、レスポンスが違う。この薄さとDetroit One Blockと相まって、サウンドに芯を持ち、アタックの強いプレイにおいても十分に対応してくれる。「超軽量」と言うところもプレイヤーには魅力であろう。

The top and back are made of 3-ply maple, spruce, and maple, and are thinly finished to give a quick rise to the sound and a crisp, undulating feel when the volume is turned up to live. The composition of maple/spruce/maple is the same as the old 175, for example, the 50's 175 was maple (1mm) / spruce (3mm) / maple (1mm) for a total thickness of 5mm, while the Detroit Jazz was maple (1mm) / spruce (1.5mm) / maple (1mm) for a total thickness of 3.5mm. The Curtis is maple (1mm) / spruce (1.5mm) / maple (1mm) for a total thickness of 3.5mm. It's the same material construction, but the thickness is different, so the response is different. This thinness, combined with the Detroit One Block, gives it a core sound that can handle even the most aggressive playing. The "ultra-light weight" of the Detroit One Block is also an attraction for players.

Custom Pinned Bridge & Tailpiece

完全空洞ボディであるSmithであるが、Bridge下部に施されたDetroit One Blockにアンカーを打つことで直付けのブリッジとなっている。それにより弦振動がよりダイレクトにDetroit One Blockに響き空洞ながらも太いサウンドとなっている。

ヴィンテージP-90を基本にポジションに合わせてアレンジしている。低音がブーミーに成りすぎないようネックピックアップはワイヤーのターン数を抑え、テンションを緩めにハンドワイヤリングし、マグネットにはアルニコ2を採用。ブリッジピックアップは、アルニコ4を採用し、ネックと比べワイヤーのターン数をやや多めにテンションを緩めにワインドし、キレがありながらもミッド＆ローが力強いトーンとなるようにしている。いずれのピックアップもハウリング対策によりワックスポッテッド仕様となっている。

Smithの1P.U.モデル。そのP.U.には、敢えてSmithのブリッジP.U.を搭載。アルニコ4マグネットを使用し、AWG42番ワイヤーをワウンド、直流抵抗値も8.0KΩ前後とゲインも高め且つハイ成分の痛い部分をまろやかにさせたSmith Bridge P.U.をミドル部に搭載する事で、どのように弾いてもエクセロな感じでアウトプット。シンプルなルックスからも想像される潔さが際立つワンイシューにフォーカスされたモデルであり、シンプルな音楽にフォーカスしたプレイヤーにはベストマッチするだろう。超軽量な2.1kgと仕上がっており、Smithも2.3kg台と軽く仕上げられているが、より軽量感を体感し、プレイ時でのストレスはさらに軽減されるだろう。それにより薄胴ながらも生で弾いてもアコースティックな生鳴り感が十分に得られ、ベッドルームなどでのプレイであればアンプラグドでも十分。この軽さと、ダブルカッタウェイによる帯域が真ん中に寄り低域が締まった感じがボディ内ブリッジ下部に貼り付けられたDetroit Blockと相まって太くサスティーンを与えてくれる。完全なるHollow Body構造でありながら十分にブルース、R&Rに完璧に準じたサウンドが得られる。まさにSlim Harpoな感じである。60年代ブルース、R&R好きな方、是非。

Smith's 1P.U. model. The P.U. is equipped with Smith's bridge P.U. on purpose. It uses an Alnico 4 magnet, wound with AWG42 wire, and has a DC resistance of around 8.0K ohms to increase the gain and mellow out the painful highs. It's a one-issue model with the gracefulness you'd expect from its simple looks, and it's best suited for players who focus on simple music. It weighs only 2.1kg, and although the Smith also weighs around 2.3kg, you will experience a lighter feel and less stress when playing. The Smith is also light, weighing only 2.3 kg, but you will feel the lightness of the instrument and feel less stress when playing. The lightness of the body and the double cutaway that brings the bandwidth closer to the middle and tightens up the low end, combined with the Detroit Block that is attached to the bottom of the bridge in the body, gives it a thicker sustain. Beatの効いた”JAZZ"への対応。

１P.U.モデルであり、その一つのピックアップでのバリエーションの豊かさを与えるためにSmithのフロントP.U.をアルニコ4マグネットに変え、背の低いP.U.ながらももう少しターン数を巻きSmithのブリッジP.U.と同じ位の出力を与えており、Smithでのフロント時よりもサウンドは太くなっている。SmithのフロントP.U.はモデル構造上背が低いP-90 P.U.であり、背の高いブリッジピックアップとのバランスを整えた巻き数設定になっているが、このSmith Jazzでは背の低いタイプのP-90ながらもか弱いサウンドにならぬようになっており、このモデル独自のP.U.となっている。分かりやすく言うならば、１ P.U.モデル故にボディに載るものが少ない為にボディ鳴りも増す事とターン数を増やしたP.U.により、サウンドの芯の存在感が増しているため、弦のゲージを１サイズ太くした感じの音像である。トータル重量は約2.2kgと軽量。この辺りもサウンドファクターとして大きく影響を与えており、サウンド的には、グラントグリーンのようなFunkyなジャズにはベストマッチ。同系のミドル位置に1P.U.のSwampのP.U.位置を変えたものとも捉えられますが、SwampはSmithのブリッジP.U.を搭載しておりよりワイルド。こちらは激しいBLUES、R&R向き。Smith JAZZは、そこまでは巻いてはおらずダブルカッタウェイボディ故の頃合いの良い低域の締りに反応良く低域も響く感じとなっておりカッティングとかにも反応は良い。

This model is designed for "Jazz" with a beat.

It is a single P.U. model, and in order to have more variation with one pickup, I changed the Smith front P.U. to an Alnico 4 magnet, and even though it is a low profile P.U., I wound a few more turns to give it the same output as the Smith bridge P.U., and the sound is thicker than the Smith front. Smith's front P.U. is a low profile P-90 P.U., and the number of turns is set to balance the taller bridge pickup. However, the Smith Jazz has a unique P.U. that prevents the low profile P-90 from sounding weak. To put it simply, the P-90 is a 1 P.U. model, which means that there is less stuff on the body, which increases the body sound, and the P.U. has more turns, which increases the presence of the core of the sound, so the sound image is as if the string gauge is one size larger. The total weight is only about 2.2kg. In terms of sound, it is the best match for funky jazz like Grant Green. The Swamp has a single P.U. in the middle position, but the Swamp has a Smith bridge P.U. and is wilder. The Smith JAZZ is not as wound up as the Swamp, but it has a double cutaway body, so it has a good response to the tightness of the low frequency range, and the low frequency range resonates well, so it responds well to cutting.
